Your Love Lives On

On September 1st it had officially been 1 years, 365 days since we lost you, since we heard your voice, felt your hugs, saw your beautiful smile. One year since our world crashed around us. One year since things were normal, happy, and carefree.

This year came at a cost. During the last few months we rode the roller coaster of grief. Up and down, feeling emotions we had never felt before. Sadness that feels like a punch in the gut. Depression that hides the sun for days. Longing that was like gasping for our next breath.

How we longed for the days you were here. How we cried for times gone by. How we felt that this veil of darkness that surrounded us would never dissipate.

We leaned on each other through these times. Continued doing all the family stuff get togethers that helped add some normalcy to our world. We called each other when the pain of not having you was too much to bear.

As days became months and months became a year we focused on how you were free. How you shook off the chains of addiction and became a new creature. Full of hope, love and peace.

To celebrate your new found freedom we participated in the annual Walker County overdose awareness walk. We put your picture on the memory wall, handed out information about your nonprofit.

We took solace in the people around us who were in the exact same situation we were in. They too had lost a loved one to the demon of addiction.

We took each step that night as a vow that we will do everything in our power to stop this feeling from invading other families, all because your love lives on in us.
